Consultation on Partial Closure Sargent Way, Broadbridge Heath
Published: 22 September 2025
The survey went live on Friday afternoon although its official start date is the 22nd September and runs for 5 weeks (completing 26th October) – the yourvoice page also has background information (traffic survey reports) that you have seen (and formed part of the planning condition approval), a set of FAQ and the link to the online survey.
Please note that I will be on leave from the 25th September to the 27th October (out of the Country, Australia) so in the intervening period Adam and a colleague will be keeping an eye on the consultation – there are two dedicated email address for the consultation which we’d ask you to direct people to (allows for mis-spelt address on the notification letter).
Thank you for your support in the build up to this, we would point out that there is still likely to be some time to move the project forward, and below is typically the steps involved and an estimated timeline.
If there were a successful consultation, in terms of an intervention being a general consensus. The next steps are likely to be (including current consultation dates):
- Undertake consultation on potential closure options for Sargent Way (assumed start 22nd September) until the 26th October 2025
- Prepare a report and recommendation to Cllr Dennis (Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport) to move forward with the design of an ‘intervention’ and agreement to publish suitable TRO (to try and complete prior to end of December 2025)
- Prepare the design and associated permanent and temporary signing requirements, undertake Road Safety Audit 2, receive Designers Response and prepare Overseeing Organisation Statement, adjust the design if necessary
- Prepare the Traffic Regulation Order (for closure / emergency gate and removal of No Entry signs at Car Park)
- Publish the TRO (three weeks formal consultation)
- Receive responses and assuming at least 5 or more are objections
- Prepare a detailed report for the Cabinet member with a recommendation (assumed to be proceed) and delegate authority for works to take place
- Prepare tender package for contractor pricing
- Use Lot 6 Improvements contractor for detailed pricing
- Receive quote and confirm go ahead
- Place order and notify Network Management (road space booking)
- Place advanced warning signing of works (ten days before works)
- Undertake works for installation of emergency gate closure (assumed closure approach) and signing (2-3 weeks)
I would think that the above (from step 2) could take eight to ten months to complete.
What we’re doing
The County Highways Team is examining the potential for a partial closure of Sargent Way,
which links off Broadbridge Way in Wickhurst Green, the potential closure would either be on
the eastern or western side of the estate with the aim of preventing through traffic
movements along Broadbridge Way.
When the Consultation will take place
The consultation will be underway from the 22nd September 2025 and close on the 26th
October 2025.

the County Highways team has made arrangements with Broadbridge Heath Parish Council
for them to provide printed response forms and a set of information to view (but leave with
the Parish Council) at the Parish Office, off Sargent Way.

week, please check their webpage for opening times.
The completed paper response form can be left with the Parish and will be collected by WSCC

The consultation responses are anonymous, requiring only your postcode and some basic
information about yourself to aid with analysis. Any additional comments can be provided in
a free form text box, both online and on the form.
A set of frequently asked questions is also available on the Yourvoice page and we’d ask you
